Legacy

Jun Bao Gung Fu is a system of Martial Arts Founded by Sifu James Ibrao.  This system is centered on Hung Gar, Praying Mantis, Shaolin Long Fist, Tai Chi (Yang) & Traditional weapons. The culmination of these styles is excellent for Strength & Conditioning as well as Speed & Flexibility. The External (Hung Gar) and the Internal (Tai Chi) are a needed balance for health & longevity.

“Sifu” James Ibrao started his Martial arts journey in the Late ’50’s with Kenpo Karate. He was known for his jump kicks and was the 1st ever Blackbelt awarded by Edmund Kealoha Parker. 

After his Kenpo beginnings “Jimmy” Ibrao was inspired to continue his studies in Hollywood, CA circa 1962 with James Wing Woo, The Kung Fu master from San Francisco who studied with Lau Bun, Lam Sai Wing, Yang Chengfu, etc. Sifu Ibrao would  go on to teach students in his garage the art of Kenpo & Kung Fu and later opened a Dojo of his own in South Pasadena on Mission St. 

Sifu was an innovator and a talented athlete. Basketball player, toured against the Harlem Globetrotters 62-64 seasons. He witnessed and contributed much to the beginnings of martial arts in California. He was a contemporary of Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Rich Montgomery, Steve Muhammad, Carlos Bunda, Ted Tabura, John Natividad, Benny Urquidez, Ark Wong, Adriano Emperado, and many more. 

Sifu Ibrao has traveled the world teaching the martial arts leading a Wushu team in China in the 1980s, and holding yearly Seminars in Mexico/BCS since 1994, All while teaching these arts in his backyard to a core group of dedicated students, until his death in 2020 at 83 years old.

Sifu James Ibrao left the future of his Martial Association to Sifu Ronald Rioja & Sifu Daniel Mansion and they uphold the Tradition & Code of Conduct for Jun Bao Gung Fu.

Jun Bao Gung Fu is the Chinese name for James Ibrao given by James Wing Woo. “Jun Bao” 俊 宝 means Handsome Treasure and that’s a proper description for the System of Gung Fu that Jun Bao has to offer the world.
